Traditionally candles have been made out of paraffin wax, a petroleum based bi-product which when burned releases toxins into the surrounding environment. Contrastingly, Soyu's range of handpoured candles are non-toxic and made from a biodegradeable, renewable and sustainable product. A US Universtiy completed a study in 2001 comparing soy to paraffin wax. They found 11 known toxins to be present in paraffin wax candle emissions, two of which are known carcinogens (benzene and toulene).

Soyu's range of candles also only contain lead and zinc free wicks, reducing the amount of soot produced when burning. In addition to offering a healthier, more environmentally friendly alternative, soy candles also offer a range of additional benefits;

* Soy wax has a lower melting temperature, thus they do not get as hot as paraffin wax candles, making them safer, especially if little fingers are around.

* Because they have a lower melting point Soyu's candles also have a faster and more intense scent dispersion rate.

* They last up to 25-50% longer than traditional paraffin wax candles.
